Act now and capitalise on the current Annual Investment Allowance!
Machine owners need to act quickly if they want to ensure the delivery of the new equipment in time to capitalise on the current Annual Investment Allowance (AIA). In order to claim the current £100,000 AIA, the equipment purchased must be available for use in the business in the current tax year, i.e. before April 2012. The AIA is set to be reduced from £100,000 to £ 25,000 and the annual Write Down Allowance will reduce from 20% to 18% for machinery purchases. The effective dates are April 1st 2012 for incorporated businesses and April 6th 2012 for Sole Traders and Partnerships.
The Tax Incentive
The AIA offers equipment owners an opportunity to maximise cash flow and tax efficiency through the use of hire purchase. White hire purchase 100% of the first £100,000 of eligible expenditure can be claimed against taxable profits, just as if cash had been used to buy the equipment, even though the actual outlay in the first year would be considerably less. In a best-case scenario this is the equivalent of HMRC paying back £40,000 to the purchaser!
Leaving ordering new equipment to long could result in a unnecessary tax bill missing out on the current AIA and Write Down Allowance before the levels are cut.
