West to sponsor World Cup Talent
Proud to Sponsor Promising Talent:
Student World Cup Call Up
Eighteen-year-old Thomas Davies from Higher Heath has been called up to play for Wales in the forthcoming Student Rugby League World Cup.
After making his debut late last year for the Welsh Under-18’s, Thomas is now in the full student squad for the crunch Group B games between South Africa (July 4), England (July 7) and Ireland (July 10).
“It was a fairly late call up, but I’ll take it!” said Thomas, who began his rugby career as a six year old at Prees Recreation Club tag rugby sessions.
“It doesn’t come much bigger than being involved in a world cup, so I want to make the most of the opportunity and show what I can do”.
Prees-based agricultural machinery manufacturer Harry West has already stepped in to help sponsor the young rugby prospect, and it is hoped that other local firms will follow suit.
Managing Director Mr West, said: “We are always happy to back talented and dedicated young people like Thomas who want to get on and better themselves in life. Anyone who can put Prees on the map in this very positive light deserves good support”.
If Wales are successful in Group B at the Student Rugby League World Cup, Thomas could go on to play in the semi-finals on July 12, or possibly even the final on July 14 at Headingley Carnegie Stadium, home of the Leeds Rhinos.
